Gas and Petrochemical Complex of the Republic of Tatarstan (GPCC of RT)

Gas and Petrochemical Complex (GPCC) of the Republic of Tatarstan forms key positions in the economy of the republic: using about 8 % of republic’s manpower, enterprises of GPCC form 59 % of total sales, 67 % of profit in the economy of the region. The Complex plays the leading role in foreign trade, providing 90 % of all export volume of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Gas and Petrochemical Complex of the Republic of Tatarstan includes more than 1485 organizations functioning in the following line of activity: “extraction of fuel and energy minerals”, “oil products production”, “chemical production”, “production of rubber and plastic products”.

OAO “Tatneft”, OAO “ TAIF-NK”, OAO “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”, OAO “Kazanorgsintez”, Tatneft’s group of tyre business companies provide 97 % of total sale of products of the main companies of GPCC, being budget forming and district-forming enterprises of Tatarstan. These enterprises are the largest companies in Russia, and by several products – in Europe.

The Republic has a developed oil production sector, presented by OAO “Tatneft” and by 34 small oil–production companies.  The volume of oil production in the territory of the Republic in 2010 amounted to 32, 381mln.tons. Sales revenue in oil production industry in 2010 came to 308,4 billion rubles.    OAO “Tatneft” is one of the largest vertically integrated oil companies of Russian Federation, which incorporates gas and  oil production complex, gas and oil refining and petrochemical enterprises, as well as enterprises marketing products of oil refining and petrochemistry, banks, insurance and service companies.

The total sales revenue of oil refining industry of Tatarstan according to the results of 2010 was 100, 9 billion rubles.

All kinds of motor fuels (aviation kerosene, automobile gasoline, diesel fuel), valuable feedstock for petrochemical industry are produced in the Republic. The basic participant of this sector of GPCC in RT is OAO “TAIF-NK”. Now a Complex of oil refining and petrochemical plants in Nizhnekamsk is being constructed (OAO “ТАNЕКО”), which in the nearest future will become the largest participant of  Russian and Tatarstan markets of oil products.

Chemical and petrochemical industries of the Republic occupy high positions on Russian and world markets. Today the Republic’s enterprises manufacture 60% of domestic polystyrene, 50% of polythene, 31% of polypropylene, 37% of synthetic rubbers, 30% of tyres, 14% of detergents. Sales revenue of chemical and petrochemical enterprises of Tatarstan in 2010 came to 205,2 billion rubles. In addition to large enterprises stated above, chemical and petrochemical industry of the Republic is presented by dynamically developing companies as OAO “Nefis Cosmetics”,  ZAO “Kvart”, OAO “Nizhnekamsk Technical Carbon Plant”, OAO “Karpov Chemical Plant”, “Kazan Synthetic Rubber Plant” etc., as well as by enterprises of small and medium-sized business.

GPCC of RT is presented by more than 750 enterprises of small and medium business; most of them are focused on the production of rubber and plastic products (46 %). The potential of this sector in gas and petrochemical complex increases from year to year mainly due to the intensification of processing of products manufactured by large companies - polymers, laprols, synthetic rubbers, α-olefins and other products.

To implement the strategy of transition to innovation development scientific research institutes and organizations, educational institutions, innovative  infrastructure are more and more involved in the activity of GPCC. OAO “IPT (innovating technopark) “Idea”, “Nizhnekamsk industrial district Association”, KIP “Master”, SEZ “Alabuga” have been established in the republic and currently are successfully functioning in Tatarstan. Technopolis “Himgrad”, Industrial park “Kamskiye Polyany” and other sites of innovation and business infrastructure aimed at creation of effectively functioning clusters of chemistry and petrochemistry have started their activity. 

OAO “Tatneftekhiminvest-holding” in the structure of Gas and Petrochemical Complex of the Republic of Tatarstan

JSC “Tatneftekhiminvest-holding” being the central part of innovation system of GPCC of  RT is  a coordination and expert center working in a wide range of lines of activity of GPCC. It coordinates the activity of various organizations of the Republic of Tatarstan participating in regulation of innovative processes, concerning GPCC of the Republic.

In OAO “Tatneftekhiminvest-holding” the database of innovative investigations and projects of the largest scientific research organizations of the Republic of Tatarstan and Russia has been formed. Perspective spheres of scientific and technical researches and investigations with the purpose of sustainable development of GPCC of the region in the long-term period are the following:

- Application of new technologies and equipment in petrochemistry.

- Synthesis and research study of high-molecular compounds, creation of polymeric materials of new generations and products of their processing for different spheres of application based on science-intensive, ecologically safe, resource-saving technologies in view of renewal and increase of a raw-material base and processing of secondary polymers.

- Development of high performance technologies and efficient equipment for processing of polymeric materials and waste products, and consumption of polymeric materials.

- Development of biotechnologies, chemical technologies of natural compounds contained in vegetative, animal and other renewable biological feedstock material, synthesis of pure feedstuff, medical, fodder and technical preparations, creation of new natural and biologically active compounds.

- Development of methods of processing of biological feedstock material to produce biofuel and other ecologically clean products replacing traditional products of oil refining, petrochemistry and chemistry.

OAO “Tatneftekhiminvest-holding” actively cooperates with foreign companies, licensers and licensees of technologies and know-how, since the technological development including gas and petrochemical complex is based on foreign experience through licenses, know-how, import of advance technical equipments.
